WIP: Remote Scottish Island

Some work-in-progress screenshots of a remote Scottish island level that I am currently creating for the Advanced Games Research Group at the University of Portsmouth.

The level is split into four parts and is being built using Valve's Hammer software and the Source engine. My role in this project has been to create the terrain and buildings, and to develop materials and model assets when existing assets were unsuitable, for example, the radio mast and barbed wire fence models.

I have also created custom Skybox textures and set up the lighting, fog and water to create a cold, moody atmosphere for the game.

I am also currently completing a level for a multiplayer mod, so check back soon for more information.

NEW! Derelict Bathroom

I quickly created this game environment from scratch in three days, using a variety of Victorian interior design books as reference.

The room has been created with insertion into a game engine in mind. It is approximately 8,500 triangles and uses 512² and 1024² maps.

Victorian Mansion

This staircase was created as part of a larger project involving a complete Victorian mansion.

Zones and portals were set up for each room so that the engine only renders rooms visible to the camera, increasing frame-rate.

Lightmaps were generated to light the room whilst retaining the impressive shadows when rendered in real-time.

Castle Gatehouse

This castle gatehouse was created to test a texture, painted from scratch using a Wacom graphics tablet.

The texture is tileable in several different ways. Different sections of the texture were applied to different areas of the model, creating a less uniform pattern.
